Description

UQ's Academic Scholarship program aims to reward the achievements of outstanding school leavers and gap year students. If you are a high-achieving student and you are completing Year 12 in 2020 (or you completed in 2019 and you’re on a gap year), you are encouraged to apply. 

There are three scholarships on offer:

UQ Vice-Chancellors Scholarships

Awarded to applicants who achieve a minimum ATAR of 99.90 (or equivalent):

  • Award Value: $12,000 per year, total value of up to $60,000
  • Duration:  Up to 5 years
  • Level: Undergraduate and any subsequent related postgraduate study, such as Honours.

UQ Excellence Scholarships

Awarded to applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic, leadership and/or community service achievements during their senior secondary studies who aspire to study at The University of Queensland.

Applicants who achieve a minimum ATAR of 99.00 (or equivalent) will be considered for a UQ Excellence Scholarship:

  • Award Value: $6,000 per year, total value of up to $24,000
  • Duration: Up to 4 years
  • Level: Undergraduate and any subsequent related postgraduate study, such as Honours.

UQ Merit Scholarships

Awarded to high achieving applicants who have demonstrated significant academic, leadership and/or community service achievements during Years 11 & 12. 

Applicants who achieve a who achieve a minimum ATAR of 95.00 (or equivalent) will be considered for a UQ Merit Scholarship:

  • Award Value:  $6,000
  • Duration:  First year of study
  • Level: Undergraduate study.

Eligibility

Academic scholarships are open to Year 12 and gap year students who are:

  • Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holders, or
  • Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand citizens, or international students completing, or have completed, Years 11 and 12 in Australia;

AND

  • have not completed any previous tertiary study other than that undertaken as part of Year 11–12 studies (e.g. Enhanced Studies Program); and
  • have applied for a tertiary place through QTAC; and
  • are intending to enrol as a full-time student in a UQ undergraduate program in 2021 (or 2022 if deferring their tertiary place); and
  • will have UQ listed as their 1st or 2nd QTAC preference.

How to apply

PLEASE READ the below application information:

Applicants only need to complete and submit ONE application to be considered for the three Academic Scholarships on offer.

Before you commence your scholarship application:

  • Obtain your QTAC reference number. The reference number will be issued after you have lodged your QTAC application online, and will be 9 numbers long beginning with a '31' (or a '20' if you are a gap year student who applied to QTAC for 2020) (Note: your QTAC reference number is different to your LUI number and QTAC receipt number)

The Application Link on this page will take you to Application Portal. You will need to Register if you do not already have a Survey Monkey login.  

Select the Academic Scholarships program.

  • Commence your application with the Eligibility form.
    • If you do not meet the eligibility requirements the form will note this and you will be unable to progress further.
    • If you meet the eligibility requirements, continue to read ‘Progress to Application Form’, the Information and Rules, and then ‘Mark as Complete’.
  • If you are eligible to apply, the Application form will become available in your task box for you to commence.
    • You can exit your application form at any page by using ‘Save and Continue Editing’ and 'Back to Application' in your task box. This will allow you to return directly to the form when you next log in.
    • Once you ‘Mark as Complete’, you can still return to your form, but you will need to choose Edit from the Options icon in the top right hand corner to make additions/changes.  
    • Remember to save whenever you make a change. Use the bottom Next and Previous buttons to navigate through your form.
  • The Submit option will only become available once you have ‘Marked as Complete’.
    • Do not ‘Submit’ your application unless you are sure you have nothing further to add to it, as once you have submitted, you will be unable to Edit your form further. 
  • Please answer all the questions on page 1 of the Application Form. Some questions are mandatory and you will not be able to proceed unless you provide an answer.
  • You can indicate up to 10 of your best achievements, from years 11 & 12, in the academic, leadership and community service sections on pages 2-4. 
    • A drop down list of frequently used achievements in each section is provided,  otherwise select ‘Other’ and use the free form text box to add your achievement. Tab across the tables to complete all columns in these questions.
    • You will be required to provide supporting documentation to evidence ALL your listed achievements.
  • Check the boxes applicable to you on page 5 and check the Declaration after you have read the Privacy Policy and Applicant Declaration.
  • Upload supporting documentation in the Upload Documents section. This section is not mandatory and will not restrict you Submitting your application, however once you have Submitted your application you will be unable to edit your application at all, so ensure you have uploaded all documentation prior to Submitting your application.
  • Acceptable file formats include: pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, png, jpg, jpeg, jpeg.
  • Applications without supporting documentation will not be considered. Hard copies of documents are not required at this stage of the process, however verification of documents (originals) may be requested at any future stage. 
  • If the ATTACH FILE box does not show, you may need to use another browser.
  • When you are ready to finalise your application, having completed the application form and uploaded supporting documentation, click the ‘SUBMIT’ link.

Please note, the application form cannot be edited once it has been Submitted.

The Online Application Form and all supporting documentation for the 2021 Academic Scholarships must be submitted by 11:59pm on 20 November 2020.  Late applications will NOT be considered.

You should receive a confirmation email when your application is successfully submitted. Note: this email may be issued to your Spam or Junk folder.   Please contact the Student Fees and Scholarships Office at ugscholarships@uq.edu.au if you haven’t received your confirmation email within two working days of submitting your application.

Information supplied by you will only be used for the purpose of assessing your eligibility for a scholarship and the scholarship selection process.

The University of Queensland will not make available to a third party any personal information supplied by you unless required or permitted by law or  where you have consented to the disclosure. The University may distribute aggregated statistical information for statutory reporting purposes but only in a form that will not identify any person individually.   • Scholarship recipients will be determined by a panel of senior UQ staff and selection is completely at the University’s discretion.
  • Scholarships will be awarded with consideration to a range of factors including but not necessarily limited to academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and/or community service achievements, financial need, program preferences and secondary school attended.
  • Bonus ranks applied as a result of any scheme will NOT apply for the purposes of awarding scholarships.
