Eligibility
You’re eligible if you:
- have received an offer to study at UQ, or have applied to study at UQ;
- hold an Eligible Visa;
- have not received the Scholarship previously for the same level of study;
- have not received another scholarship or tuition fee reduction from the University;
- have not received a full scholarship from another organisation;
- can demonstrate and provide documentary evidence of financial hardship.
How to apply
Applications for Semester 2, 2025 will open on 5 May.
You'll need:
- a copy of your current visa, if you are currently on a Bridging Visa A or E and have applied for a Protection visa, please provide a copy of the acknowledgement letter from Immigration
- your resume/CV
- UQ offer letter or confirmation of application for the chosen program of study
- Evidence of your and/or your family's financial circumstances, as applicable:
- Centrelink Income Statement;
- employment payslips for the past two months;
- Australian Taxation Office Notice of Assessment for the most recent financial year;
- any other evidence as relevant.
- a personal statement which outlines:
- your personal circumstances
- any recent experience in extra-curricular activies, community service and/or leadership activies; and
- your career goals, and how your chosen program will assist you to achieve those goals
You can also include:
- evidence of your prior study/qualifications (if applicable)
- references from employers, community organisations, academics or any other relevant group that wish to support your scholarship application

Selection criteria
We'll consider:
- evidence of financial hardship;
- strength of personal statement outlining personal circumstances, recent experience in extra-curricular activities, community service, leadership activities, career goals and how the chosen program will assist you to achieve these goals;
- academic achievement.

About this scholarship
The UQ Refugee and Humanitarian Scholarship is funded by The University of Queensland (UQ). Established in 2021, this Scholarship offers students from refugee or asylum seeker backgrounds the opportunity to pursue higher education in any desired discipline at UQ.
