Eligibility

You're eligible if you:

  • are enrolled in either the Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Honours) with an extended major in Western Civilisation or the Bachelor of Humanities/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) with an extended major in Western Civilisation
  • are an Australian Citizen or Australian permanent resident 
  • have successfully completed the courses with the course code WCIV1000 and WCIV1100 as a full-time student 
  • will be available to participate in an interview with the selection committee on a date set by the University.

How to apply

You'll need:

  • a one to two page CV (including academic achievements)
  • a statement addressing the selection criteria within the application form – you must respond to three questions based on academic ability, community service and compatibility with the program of study (up to 2000 characters per question)
  • a statement addressing any disadvantage (if applicable)
  • appropriate supporting evidence.

Selection criteria

We'll consider:

  • your academic ability as demonstrated by previous academic results and awards
  • each of the following as demonstrated by written application and performance at interview:
    1. interest in the questions and ideas that have shaped the world
    2. track-record of contribution to your communities
    3. creativity and critical thinking skills that challenge and cross boundaries
    4. ability to contribute effectively to discussion and debate
    5. desire and ability to empower and better the lives of others and to make a difference in the world
    6. qualities of compassion, empathy, and ethical behaviour
    7. the value of the opportunity provided by the scholarship to your future development
  • your overall performance at the interview.

Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate as part of their application that they have experienced disadvantage or are from an underrepresented background.

About this scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2021 with support from The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation. The purpose of the Scholarship is to support students currently undertaking a program with an extended major in Western Civilisation. A Ramsay scholar is an academic high-achiever who desires to make a difference in the world. They are creative and intellectually curious with the critical skills to challenge the status quo and cross boundaries. They value discussion, debate, and the opportunity to learn from others. Their endeavours are driven by compassion, a desire to better the lives of all members of the community, and a strong code of ethics.
