Description
The bursary was established in 2013 and is maintained by gifts from donors including UQ Staff, alumni and friends.
The purpose of these bursaries is to support a University of Queensland student identifying as Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex or Queer.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- submit an application
- identify as Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex or Queer;
- be currently enrolled as a full time student;
- be experiencing significant financial hardship;
- not be in receipt of a scholarship that the Director deems similar
- have demonstrated commitment to the LGBTIQ community.

How to apply
To apply, email a completed application form and suporting documentation to the Student Fees and Scholarships office at ugscholarships@uq.edu.au by the closing date.
The successful applicant may be requested to participate in publicity about this bursary as arranged by the Advancement Office of The University of Queensland.
Selection criteria
For the selection process, a selection committee, comprising –
- the Director, Student Affairs, (or nominee who is a UQ Ally) as Chair
- UQ Ally;
- a representative of the UQ Advancement Office or their nominee; and
- a past recipient or a UQ student representative from Queer Collective.
The bursary is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by:
- evidence of identifying as Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex or Queer;
- the applicant‘s academic achievement in their studies to date;
- the applicant‘s financial need; and
- the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to the LGBTIQ community; and
- any other matter that the Selection Committee considers relevant.

A recipient may hold the bursary for a maximum of 1 year subject to the recipient continuing to be enrolled full-time in their program.
