About this scholarship

Through their gift, Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions hopes to support Higher Degree by Research students to realise their full potential through industry and individual partnerships that might not otherwise have taken shape without the opportunity to undertake international travel.

Eligibility

You are eligible if you are a Higher Degree by Research candidate undertaking travel to an approved international institution to develop your research capabilities within the mining and mechanical sector.

There is a preference, though not a requirement, for the Scholarship to support a female candidate.

How to apply

To submit your application, apply online and attach the following completed documents:

Selection criteria

Your application will be ranked on the basis of:

  • Academic achievement and the potential of scholastic success; and
  • Any other matters the selection committee considers to be relevant to your future research development.

Rules

  • Any changes to the destination, purpose, or dates of travel requires prior approval from the Graduate School. Failure to obtain the approval may forfeit the award.  Retrospective changes will not be approved.
  • Applicants must seek approval for the proposed activities and travel from their Principal Supervisor before submitting an application.
  • Applying for this award is for funding for travel, not an approval for travel.  Applicants must follow the process and advice outlined on the HDR Travel page.
  • Any unspent funds must be returned to the Graduate School.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that additional funds are available to supplement the award, if required.
  • Donors may invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.
  • Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.

Incomplete applications will not be considered; applicants are responsible for providing the required documentation and the Graduate School will not follow up with individuals.
