About this scholarship

Through their gift, the Sanders Family Foundation wishes to support two top-up scholarships for students undertaking PhD projects in parenting and family psychology. Through the Sanders Family Foundation HDR Top-up Scholarships, the Sanders family hopes to create opportunities for passionate PhD candidates to continue innovative and cutting-edge research in family and parenting psychology and grow the legacy Professor Sanders initiated at the Parenting and Family Support Centre. The Sanders Family Foundation wishes to celebrate the impact Professor Matthew Sanders AO continues to have at the University of Queensland by establishing these Scholarships.

Eligibility

You are eligible for this scholarship if you are applying for a PhD in the field of parenting and family psychology.

Preference is for one of the Scholarships to be awarded to a student undertaking research in parent and family violence, and the other Scholarship to be awarded to a student undertaking research in the field of dissemination of evidence-based parenting support

How to apply

You will be considered for this scholarship when you apply for a higher degree by research program at UQ in the domestic scholarship round (2025 Round 2).

Selection criteria

Your application will be ranked on the basis of:

  • Academic achievement and the potential of scholastic success; and
  • Any other matters the selection committee considers to be relevant to your future research development.

Rules

This is a philanthropic HDR top up scholarship and adheres to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.

All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ Research Scholarships terms and conditions

Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.

Donors may also invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.

The information you provide in your application is collected for the purposes of (1) assessing your eligibility for this scholarship, (2) selecting scholarship recipients, and (3) administration of the scholarship.  The University of Queensland may disclose the information you provide to the Donor for the stated purposes. The University will not otherwise disclose the information to a third party without your consent, unless such disclosure is authorised or required by law. A domestic part-time student with carer’s responsibilities, a medical condition or a disability, which prevents them from studying full-time may be eligible for scholarship consideration, on a case-by-case basis. When applying to hold the living stipend scholarship part-time, please provide evidence of your carer’s responsibilities, medical condition or disability.
