Eligibility

You're eligible if you:

  • can demonstrate financial hardship
  • do not hold a scholarship that the Head considers to be similar
  • are enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or an integrated or dual engineering program
  • have completed the number of units towards your program, as shown in the table below.

  • your personal qualities including leadership potential, community service and/or engagement
  • your academic achievements in your program to date 
  • financial hardship.

We'll consider:

  • demonstrated financial hardship
  • personal qualities including: leadership potential, community service and/or engagement
  • academic achievement 
  • any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to your future success in the engineering profession.

What happens next

We’ll acknowledge your application by email. If you have not received an email within 2 days of applying, email scholarships@eait.uq.edu.au.

If you’re considered eligible, we’ll forward your application to a selection panel to review.

If you’re selected, we will notify you in writing to organise an interview.

About this scholarship

The Richard Spenser Hopkins Prize in Civil Engineering was established in 2004 in memory of Richard Spenser Hopkins, a Civil Engineer and Past President of Alumni Friends of The University of Queensland In 2019, Alumni Friends determined to replace the prize, and to establish an endowed undergraduate scholarship under the Create Change Scholarship Match Initiative to support undergraduate students studying engineering who are facing financial hardship.
