Eligibility

You're eligible if you:

  • are enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine
  • submit an application to the Dean by the closing date.

How to apply

You'll need two documents:

  • a document including:
    • all details of the Conference: full title of conference, dates, venue, city, state, country
    • proof of abstract acceptance or invitation to present at the conference: email or letter
    • student details: UQ ID number; full name; year of MD study; HDR candidate: yes/no; current GPA
    • research supervisors full name and affiliation
    • title of presentation
    • type of presentation: poster or oral
    • presentation abstract as accepted
    • a statement (100- 150 words) of the tangible benefits that may be expected from presenting at this conference
  • a document with a breakdown of funds requested for conference registration and/or travel costs, as well as the receipts for expenses paid. (Please note that no accommodation costs will be considered.) We can only reimburse for expenses already paid for (up to $1,000) with receipts provided.

Selection criteria

We'll consider:

  • the quality and prestige of the conference to be attended;
  • the quality of the presentation based on the accepted abstract; and
  • a statement on the strength of tangible benefits that may be expected from presenting at this conference

This grant is available retrospectively if evidence that the paper was accepted and the conference was attended in the year of the award can be provided.

About this scholarship

This grant was established in 1972 and is maintained by an endowment from the estate of the late Randall Gilbert Silcock. This award was recognised by the UQ Senate in 2015.
