Eligibility
This prize is awarded for the most outstanding performance in wind or brass at the annual competition held by the School of Music.
You are eligible if you're:
- enrolled as a student at UQ
- available to perform in wind or brass at the annual competition.

- details of the work you propose to perform
- a short bio.

Selection criteria
If selected to compete, your performance will be judged at the annual competition.
Competition dates:
- Heats: 9 September 2025
- Finals: TBC
Competition rules:
- heats- max 10 mins duration
- finals- max 20 mins duration
- no more than 6 candidates to proceed from heats to finals in each competition
- competitors to organise and self-fund any rehearsals with pianist prior to heats and final if required
- winner (automatic) and runner up (by invitation) in each competition to perform in prize winner concert.

About this scholarship
The prize was first offered in 2017 as one of the Fifty $1,000 Alumni Friends Golden Jubilee Bursaries and is maintained by an annual donation from the O'Brien family, who are longstanding supporters of music in Brisbane.
