The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide assistance to students who are experiencing financial hardship to study earth sciences (geological sciences) at The University of Queensland. 


An applicant is eligible for the Scholarship, if the applicant: 

  • submits a completed application to the Associate Dean by the closing date;
  • is a domestic student in accordance with the University’s Student Fees Policy;
  • is enrolled or intends to enrol as a commencing student in the Relevant Field in an Approved Program in the year of award; and
  • can demonstrate financial need.

How to apply

Please complete and submit the Lowth Geology Scholarship online application form by 4th Feburary 2022 at 11.59 PM AEST. Please ensure you've read the prompts in the application form and attach all relevant supporting documents before submitting your application. No late or incomplete scholarship applications will be considered.

The selection committee will be conducting an interview for short-listed applicants. 

All submissions will be kept confidential and only used for the purposes of assessing the scholarship. 

Selection criteria

The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of the following criteria: 

  • demonstrated financial need;
  • strength of personal statement included with application;
  • academic capability as demonstrated by overall academic performance; and
  • any other evidence that the selection committee may deem relevant to the applicant’s future success in their field.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are encouraged to apply

Science Scholarships

Terms and conditions

The recipient may hold the Scholarship for the Minimum Completion Time of the Approved Program subject to the recipient: 

  • continuing to be enrolled full-time in an Approved Program in a Relevant Field; and
  • maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress in each semester that the Scholarship is held

 If a recipient fails to satisfy rule 6(1) the recipient must show cause to the Associate Dean why the Scholarship should not be cancelled.
