Established in 1978 by a bequest from the late Leo Howard, PhD A.N.U., BSc, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Queensland and funds raised by his friends to augment his bequest for the purpose of creating a suitable memorial to him. Awarded to a second year student studying an approved Engineering program.


A bursary shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Academic), Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology to students who have completed the first 2 semesters of an approved program that includes the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or the integrated Bachelor of Engineering Honours/Master of Engineering, or a dual program that includes the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at The University of Queensland.

Selection criteria

In making its recommendation the Associate Dean (Academic) shall consider factors other than academic ability (such as the financial need of the student and whether the student has other awards) but will require that the candidate has demonstrated considerable academic ability.
