About this scholarship

Established in 1994 by a gift from Dr Les Thompson, Urologist. The Scholarship is awarded for the purpose of enabling a postgraduate student within the Department of Surgery to pursue a program of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Eligibility

You are eligible if you are a Higher Degree by Research candidates in the field of Surgery pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy.  A preference will be given to candidates researching the biology of renal cell carcinoma.

Your application will be ranked on the basis of:

  • academic achievement and experience in research and potential for scholastic success;
  • any other matters the selection committee sees fit

Rules

  • The scholarships listed on this page are philanthropic HDR travel scholarships which adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.

  • All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ research and travel scholarships, including reporting and progress requirements.

  • Any unspent funds must be returned to the Graduate School.

  • Donors may invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.

  • Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered; applicants are responsible for providing the required documentation and the Graduate School will not follow up with individuals.
