About this scholarship
Established in 1994 by a gift from Dr Les Thompson, Urologist. The Scholarship is awarded for the purpose of enabling a postgraduate student within the Department of Surgery to pursue a program of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
Eligibility
You are eligible if you are a Higher Degree by Research candidates in the field of Surgery pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy. A preference will be given to candidates researching the biology of renal cell carcinoma.

Your application will be ranked on the basis of:
- academic achievement and experience in research and potential for scholastic success;
- any other matters the selection committee sees fit
Rules
The scholarships listed on this page are philanthropic HDR travel scholarships which adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.
All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ research and travel scholarships, including reporting and progress requirements.
Any unspent funds must be returned to the Graduate School.
Donors may invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.
Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.
Incomplete applications will not be considered; applicants are responsible for providing the required documentation and the Graduate School will not follow up with individuals.
