Eligibility

You are eligible if you:

  • are enrolled in an undergraduate program at UQ
  • have completed at least 2 units of poetry courses
  • can demonstrate financial hardship
  • have not previously been awarded the scholarship

How to apply

Apply online via the link. You will need to provide:

  • Personal details
  • Details of your studies to date
  • Financial information including income, expenses and a statement outlining your financial situation
  • A statement of 750-1000 words which outlines your commitment to poetry
  • A sample of your poetry (one poem, maximum 50 lines)

Selection criteria

We'll consider:

  • your academic achievement in poetry courses
  • your strength of interest in poetry
  • the poem you submit with your application
  • demonstrated financial hardship 
  • any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to your future success in the field of poetry. 

What happens next

We’ll email you to let you know when we've received your application. If you have not received an email within 2 days of applying, email us at scholarships@hass.uq.edu.au.

If you’re considered eligible, we’ll forward your application to a selection panel to review.

If you’re successful, we will notify you in writing.

About this scholarship

The scholarship was established in 2010 and is maintained by a bequest from the estate of Dorothy Susan Cassidy who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1980 and a Master of Arts in 1986.
