The Joan Elizabeth Wickham Prize was first established in 2010, following a bequest to Alumni Friends from the Estate of Joan Wickham, who managed the Engineering Library from 1968 until her retirement in 1988.

The Prize was awarded annually to a female student who achieved the highest GPA in the first 4 semesters of the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program, and was last awarded in 2019.

In 2019, Alumni Friends determined to replace the prize, and to establish an endowed undergraduate scholarship under the Create Change Scholarship Match Initiative to support female undergraduate students who are facing financial hardship who have a dream to study engineering at UQ.

The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and support a female engineering undergraduate student studying at The University of Queensland, who is facing financial hardship.

An applicant is eligible for the Scholarship, if the applicant:

  • can demonstrate financial need;
  • submits an application to the Associate Dean, by the closing date for applications;
  • is enrolled full-time in an Approved Program; and
  • is a female student.
