About this scholarship

This HDR travel scholarship was established in 2009 and is maintained by a bequest from the late Orme Augusta Marsh. The purpose of the scholarship is to support a Higher Degree by Research candidate in observing architectural methods used overseas.

Eligibility

You are eligible if you are:

  • a PhD student 
  • studying in the field of architecture

Please submit your application by 11:59pm, Sunday 18 August 2024.

Selection criteria

We'll consider:

  • the merit of the applicant's proposed travel plan, indicating how the scholarships would be spent to observe overseas architectural methods
  • the significance and relevance of the proposed overseas travel to the applicant's research higher degree candidature
  • the potential for the proposed travel to enhance the quality of the applicant's research higher degree thesis
  • the potential for the proposed travel to expedite the completion of the thesis
  • any other matters the selection committee sees fit.

Rules

  • The scholarships listed on this page are philanthropic HDR travel scholarships which adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.

  • All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ research and travel scholarships, including reporting and progress requirements.

  • Applicants acknowledge that submitting an application for this scholarship is not for an approval for travel and successful applicants must follow the travel process and advice outlined on the HDR Travel page.

  • Any changes to the purpose, destination, or travel dates requires prior approval from the Graduate School. Failure to obtain the approval may forfeit the award.  Retrospective changes will not be approved. 

  • Any unspent funds must be returned to the Graduate School.

  • Donors may invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.

  • Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered; applicants are responsible for providing the required documentation and the Graduate School will not follow up with individuals.
