Eligibility

You're eligible if you:

  • are a Year 3 or 4 MD student
  • submit an application before the closing date.

  • a personal statement (of no more than 250 words) outlining your motivation to attend the course
  • a recent resumé

Selection criteria

We'll consider:

  • strength of personal statement outlining motivation to attend the course;
  • academic achievement, skills and experience as demonstrated by recent resumé.

The course will take place at the JCU facility in Cairns from 31 August to 1 September 2024. Please ensure that you are available and can travel to attend the course on these dates. Recipients will be required to attend both days of the course. Successful recipients will be responsible for their own travel arrangements.

About this scholarship

Established in 2022 by the Mayne Academy of Surgery at The University of Queensland. The award wishes to honour A/Prof Gerard McCafferty, who was one of the pioneers of head and neck surgery in Brisbane working at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Throughout his distinguished career as an otorhinolaryngologist, Dr McCafferty has received numerous awards, which includes the Order of Australia, Medal of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, as well as being elected to honorary Life Membership by the Council of Ear Nose and Throat Head and Neck Surgeons in Australia (ASOHNS).) 

Please note that this is a school-based prize and will not be recorded on your academic transcript.
