Description

This is an Australian Government funded scholarship for HDR candidates on projects that align with recently awarded Category 1 research grants.

As a scholarship recipient, you’ll:

  • receive a stipend to assist your living costs
  • work with leading researchers on a project of national significance. 

Finding a project

To receive this scholarship, you must first select an existing research project.

To find a project:

  1. Explore project opportunities and choose one that suits your interests and educational background.
  2. View the latest commencement date and ensure you can meet the timeframes (apply at least 12 weeks prior).
  3. Contact the project supervisor to discuss your interest.

How to apply

You apply for this scholarship when you submit an application for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). You do not need to submit a separate scholarship application.

Application process

To apply:

  • Choose a project to apply for and contact the project supervisor to discuss your interest. 
  • Review your eligibility.
  • Prepare your documentation.
  • Complete the PhD program application process
  • In your application, under the 'Scholarship and Collaborative study' section:
    1. Select ‘My higher degree is not collaborative’.
    2. Select 'I am applying for, or have been awarded a scholarship or sponsorship'.
    3. Select the UQ Earmarked Scholarship type.

Due date

These scholarships don’t have a closing date. However, if you're awarded a scholarship after commencement there will be no retrospective payments of this scholarship.

PhD program enrolment takes place in research quarters (not semesters). Commencement is fixed to a specific period. As a scholarship recipient you can start in any research quarter. 

If you receive this scholarship after commencement there will be no retrospective payments of this scholarship.

If you're a domestic part-time student with carer's responsibilities, a medical condition or a disability that prevents you from studying full-time, you may be eligible for scholarship consideration. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis. 

International students must study full-time.
