About this scholarship

Established in 2023 by Dr Rodney Thelander to pay tribute to this grandfather Dr Charles Thelander. Dr Charles Thelander, grew up on a small farm in Yangan near Warwick. Through hard work and perseverance, he proceeded to win a scholarship to study medicine at Edinburgh University in Scotland where he graduated with First Class Honours in 1907. Dr Thelander felt a duty to return to Queensland and give back to the community. Between 1910 and 1950 he became one of Brisbane’s leading medical practitioners. He was also one of the founding members and original owners of Ballow Chambers on Wickham Terrace, which was the earliest medical specialist building of its type in Brisbane.
