As a result of a generous bequest from the estate of Dr Alf Howard AM, the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences is pleased to accept applications for the Dr Alf Howard International Travel Scholarship.

The Dr Alf Howard International Travel Scholarship is a philanthropic HDR travel scholarship valued at $4,500. It is awarded annually to allow a higher degree by research student from the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences to undertake international travel that will improve the quality of their research.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a confirmed higher degree by research candidate
  • have no overdue milestone at the time of application.

How to apply

Email applications to hdr.hmns@enquire.uq.edu.au.

To be considered for this scholarship, submit a free-form application that describes:

  • your track record of academic excellence
  • the program of planned travel – presenting a paper at a conference may well form part of the planned program, but is not normally expected to be the primary activity undertaken
  • how the planned activities will improve the quality of your research.

The application must also include:

  • a budget for the trip – and where the budget exceeds $4,500, an indication from where the balance will be funded
  • a letter of support from your principal advisor, and where appropriate, a member of the international host institution.

Terms and conditions

All philanthropic scholarship recipients must adhere to the conditions of the UQ Research and Travel Scholarships Policy, including reporting and progress requirements.

If you are awarded this scholarship, you must acknowledge it in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while you held the scholarship.

Donors may also invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.
