Eligibility

You're eligible to apply if you:

  • are enrolled in a program administered by the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry
  • will be undertaking a research project in India researching Indian history, culture or religion
  • do not hold another travel scholarship or grant

Selection criteria

We'll consider:

  • academic capability and future academic potential; 

  • demonstrated level of interest in researching Indian history, culture or religion as evidenced by personal statement included in the application; 

  • strength of the proposed research project in India; and 

  • any other evidence which may be deemed relevant to the applicant’s future success in their field of study.

About this scholarship

Established in 1995 from a fund that includes a bequest of $25,000 to the University under the will of the late Professor D.P. Singhal, who taught Indian History at the University for 25 years, and donations from friends and colleagues of Professor Singhal to commemorate his contribution to the intellectual life of the University in ways reflecting his scholarly interests.
