Research environment

The Centre for Future Autonomous Systems and Technologies (FAST) is one of four, and the newest research centre established within the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ).

FAST was established with a vision to be an internationally renowned research centre: 

Leading the development of new technologies that enable engineering systems to deliver assured levels of performance, precision, reliability and resilience; and

Supporting major industries in transitioning to a digitally-disrupted world by creating new knowledge, providing practical advice and inspiring a generation of graduates ready to succeed in tomorrow’s workplace.

Its current research portfolio consists of government and industry led partnerships that also includes links to other schools within UQ as well as external institutions.

Your application will be assessed on a competitive basis.

We take into account your:

  • previous academic record
  • publication record
  • honours and awards
  • employment history

A working knowledge of mining, civil or geotechnical, or petroleum engineering, would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

You’ll demonstrate academic achievement in the field/s of mineral, resources, geotechnical and civil engineering and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge in advanced computational modelling in rock mechanics is highly desirable
