About this scholarship

The Indigenous Futures Centre is excited to support the next generation of Indigenous researchers. In addition to offering an attractive top-up scholarship and research support funds, the Centre provides its PhD candidates with training, mentoring and career opportunities.

The first of its kind, the Centre's research program will take an expansive transdisciplinary approach to address Australia's most pressing, persistent, and challenging social research issues.

Our research program conceptually shifts away from deficit-based approaches and modelling, which emphasises 'lack', toward accentuating Indigenous self-determination.

Projects will align with the Centre's three interconnected research themes:

  • Law and Justice
  • Education and Economics
  • Health and Wellbeing

Research environment

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures aims to transform the lives of Indigenous Australians through an innovative Indigenous-led, transdisciplinary research program that works with community and stakeholders across sectors to produce evidence-based, impactful, and meaningful results to fundamentally change the development and implementation of Indigenous policies and programs. The team of Chief Investigators and Partner Investigators are leading experts in their fields from across Australia and around the world, bringing a remarkable track record to the Centre.

The Centre's comprehensive Indigenous leadership, mentoring, and capacity building program is designed to foster the success of the future  generation of Indigenous researchers in a range of disciplines.
