About this scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2010 and is funded by a bequest from the estate of Zoe Ann Burnett, in memory of her grandfather the late Dr Alfred Midgley. The scholarship is also maintained by a gift from Dr Yoni Ryan, who through this scholarship, supports the life-changing power of education and a commitment to the pursuit of research in the field of literature. She hopes her gift will give postgraduate student starting out on their research careers the opportunity to flourish intellectually and personally through education at UQ.
Eligibility
You are eligible if you are a Higher Degree by Research candidate conducting research in the field of Australian Literature.
You must be in receipt of a living stipend scholarship and apply prior to PR1, to be eligible for this top up.

Selection criteria
Your application will be ranked on the basis merit as deemed by:
- Your academic performance as an undergraduate student, to date;
- The likelihood of your research producing excellent research outcomes; and
- any other matters the selection committee considers to be relevant to the your future success in their studies.
Rules
- Note that periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship.
- This philanthropic HDR scholarship adheres to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.
- All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ research and travel scholarships, including reporting and progress requirements.
- Donors may invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.
- Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered; applicants are responsible for providing the required documentation and the Graduate Research School will not follow up with individuals.
