Description
Established by Wine Australia, which is a statutory service body for the Australian grape and wine community. Wine Australia offers a PhD and Master by Research scholarship program to help attract postgraduate students to the fields of wine, viticulture and wine business research. They are committed to supporting academic endeavour and encouraging the enthusiasm of the future leaders of oenology, viticulture and wine business researchers to support a prosperous Australian grape and wine community.
This is a Higher Degree by Research, Top Up Scholarship.
Eligibility
The Wine Australian Top Up Scholarship is open to Higher Degree by Research Masters or PhD candidates.
The Scholarship is awarded annually to a HDR candidate who is enrolled in or has applied for, a Masters of Research or PhD program at an Australian or overseas university.
Applicants must hold, or have applied for, an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) or other equivalent stipend scholarship through their host university.
Applicants must be attending on campus (applies to domestic study only).
Australian candidates enrolled at an overseas university and overseas candidates enrolled at an Australian university may be eligible.
Part time awards may be available in certain circumstances.

How to apply
To apply for a Wine Australia Scholarship, you must complete an application online through the Clarity Investment Management System (CIMS). A log in and password can be obtained by emailing your full name, address, contact phone number and name of University where you will be studying to applications@wineaustralia.com.

Selection criteria
Scholarships are awarded based on:
- academic excellence
- the quality of an applicant’s Curriculum Vitae
- the merit of the proposed research program
- the expertise of the proposed supervisor(s)
- the likelihood of the student’s ongoing involvement in the wine sector, and
- funding availability

Terms and conditions
This is a Top Up HDR scholarship and adheres to the terms and conditions outlined in the Guidelines to Applicants and on the WA Research Scholarships webpage. The scholarship may be held for a period of up to three years full time PhD and up to two years full time Masters of Research.
Evidence must be provided that the university supports the proposed project and candidate. You can negotiate a supervisor after the application has been submitted; however, you are required to have a supervisor in place before the project is contracted.
Research organisations are required to submit an annual academic progress report and financial statement for each scholarship recipient. An electronic copy of the final research thesis, an Executive Summary and end of project financial reconciliation must be submitted to WA at the end of candidature.
