The NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship scheme supports outstanding Australian health and medical graduates early in their career so they can be trained to conduct research that is internationally competitive, and to develop a capacity for original independent projects.

  • Eligibility

    To be eligible applicants must:

    • Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand citizen with Special Category Visa status.
    • Be based in Australia for the duration of the award (for at least 80% of the funding period);
    • Meet UQ’s entry requirements for a research higher degree.
    • Meet the scheme eligibility criteria as set out by the NHMRC. 
    • Apply for no more than one NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship in the current application round. 
    • Submit a complete application, including all components and referee reports. Please be aware the NHMRC will deem incomplete applications ineligible.
    • Not previously have received funding for an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship (even if this had not been completed).
    • Not be a current holder of an Australian Government living allowance scholarship, such as an RTP living allowance stipend at the time of application to NHMRC.
    • Not be in the final year of an Honours degree at the time of application to NHMRC.
    • Not have completed more than 24 months of their PhD candidature, or 12 months of MPhil candidature, as at 1 January 2018.
    • Apply for funding only for an eligible degree program (ie PhD or Research Masters).
    • Ensure that the application meets the category-specific eligibility requirements.
