Scholarship description

The scholarship was established in 2015 and is maintained by an annual gift from UQ alumna and staff member Professor Doune Macdonald (BHMS 1981) and her husband Steven Leitch.

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support students who are undertaking study in the Bachelor of Health, Sport and Physical Education (Honours) program.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

  • submit an application to the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, by the closing date for applications; and
  • be a domestic student in accordance with The University’s Fee Policy; and
  • be enrolled full-time in the first year of the program; and
  • be able to provide documentary evidence of financial disadvantage; and
  • not hold another scholarship that the Head considers to be similar.

Complete the application form and submit it to the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences (hmns@uq.edu.au) by the closing date.

Selection criteria

For the selection process, the Head must establish a selection committee, comprising:

  • the Head, or nominee, as chair of the committee; and
  • at least one member of the university's academic staff who is currently teaching in the program; and
  • a representative of the donors.

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by:

  • academic achievement; and
  • documentary evidence of financial disadvantage; and
  • personal qualities, including leadership potential; and
  • any other qualities that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant’s future success in the field of Health, Sport and Physical Education.

The selection committee may interview shortlisted applicants.

Preference may be given to applicants with an Indigenous background.
