About this scholarship

This top up scholarship is to support pure mathematics PhD students at the School of Mathematics and Physics. 

Eligibility

You are eligible if you are a PhD candidate undertaking research in Pure Mathematics who are receiving a base scholarship of no more than the UQGSS rate and no additional top-up funding.

  • Support letter from Principal Advisor
  • Any papers that you have published during your time as a PhD student

Selection criteria

Your application will be ranked on the basis of:

  • potential for satisfactory scholastic success;
  • how the scholarship will be used in furthering the applicants research and professional development;
  • the potential for the proposed use of the scholarship to advance research in Mathematics
  • any other matters the selection committee sees fit.

Rules

This is a philanthropic HDR Top-Up scholarship and adheres to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.

All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ research and travel scholarships, including reporting and progress requirements.

Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.

Donors may also invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.

The information you provide in your application is collected for the purposes of (1) assessing your eligibility for this scholarship, (2) selecting scholarship recipients, and (3) administration of the scholarship.  The University of Queensland may disclose the information you provide to the Donor for the stated purposes. The University will not otherwise disclose the information to a third party without your consent, unless such disclosure is authorised or required by law. A domestic part-time student with carer’s responsibilities, a medical condition or a disability, which prevents them from studying full time may be eligible for scholarship consideration, on a case by case basis.
