This scholarship is available for high achieving students from South East Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau or India who are commencing a relevant degree program at The University of Queensland in Semester 2, 2020. The scholarship will reduce your tuition fees for the duration of your program of study at UQ by 20% per year.


To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • is an international student;
  • have applied to undertake studies at UQ on a full-time basis in a non-quota program commencing Semester 2, 2020 and has been offered a place
  • intend to enrol full time
  • be a passport holder of Hong Kong (SAR), Taiwan, Macau (SAR), India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, or Timor-Leste
  • have completed your most recent qualification in Australia or New Zealand, if currently located in Australia
  • have satisfied the program entry rank and English language proficiency requirements
  • not have received another scholarship from UQ.

Academic Requirements


High school leaver scholarship eligibility is dependent on your individual program’s entry rank requirement as follows:

  • Programs requiring Queensland Rank of 80 or below – Equivalent Queensland Rank 90.
  • Programs requiring Queensland Rank of 81 to 89 – Equivalent Queensland Rank 95.
  • Programs requiring Queensland Rank of 90 to 95 – Equivalent Queensland Rank 97.

Articulation entry

If you are an articulation student, you must have achieved:

  • a CGPA equivalent to 6.5 (on the UQ 7 point scale) for all programs, unless otherwise determined by the university; or
  • a CGPA equivalent to 6.25 (on the UQ 7 point scale) for the following programs:
    • Bachelor of Arts
    • Bachelor of Journalism
    • Bachelor of Communication

Postgraduate coursework

Have achieved a CGPA equivalent to 6.0 (on the UQ 7 point scale).

How to apply

  • Awarding of this scholarship is competitive and merit based.
  • Students with conditional offers for Semester 2 need to submit their latest transcripts by 14 May, 2020. Students who have not submitted their latest transcripts may not be considered for this scholarship. 
  • All eligible applicants will be considered automatically for this scholarship if they have received an offer for a non-quota program that commences in Semester 2, 2020.
  • Students will be notified by email if they have been awarded a scholarship and will have 2 weeks to accept. Students who let the offer lapse will not be considered for subsequent scholarship offer rounds.  
  • The 20% tuition fee waiver will be applied prior to the tuition fees due date, subject to the recipient being enrolled full-time in a relevant program.
