  • Eligibility

The scholarships are intended to prepare professionals from all knowledge areas to study in any country outside Chile. Upon return to Chile, the expectation is that graduates will apply their acquired knowledge to contribute to the scientific, academic, economic, social and cultural development of the country.

Scholarship eligibility is based on merit and work experience. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of academic achievement.

Applicants need to submit a valid letter of offer from an overseas institution when they apply for the scholarship. The letter may be conditional, provided that it is subject to one of the following:

    • improvement of the applicant’s level of English
    • financial requirement to meet the tuition fees
    • attainment of a master’s degree in the case of PhD applicants.

Awardees that need to improve their English prior to the commencement of their program have two options:

    • attain the required level of English in Chile by enrolling in a program organised by Becas Chile
    • undertake English studies in the study destination as required. In the second option, the awardee will need to cover the cost of the program (unless there is a benefit offered by the foreign education provider) and CONICYT will cover the flight and stipend (for up to six months).

More information about the scholarships can be found in Spanish on the CONICYT website:
