Description

The Scholarship is to encourage and support students undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Master of Engineering from an “under-represented” cohort – this means that the student will be a student facing financial disadvantage; and/or a female student; and/or Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. 

Eligibility

 An applicant is eligible for the Scholarship, if the applicant - 

  • submits an application to the Head, by the closing date for applications;
  • intends to enrol or is enrolled full-time in the Approved Program, in a Relevant Field (if applicable) in the year of the award; and
  • is a domestic student in accordance with the University’s Student Fees Policy;
  • is considered by the School to be from an “under-represented” cohort – this means that the student will be either a student facing financial disadvantage; and/or a female student; and/or Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and
  • does not hold a scholarship that the Head considers to be similar.

Selection criteria

(1) For the selection process, the Head must establish a selection committee, comprising – 

  1. the Head, or nominee, as chair of the committee; 
  2. at least one academic staff member who is currently teaching in the Approved Program with University staff comprising the majority.

(2) The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the following criteria:-

  • academic achievement; and; 
  • only if relevant to the application documentary evidence of financial disadvantage by providing documentary evidence of their financial circumstances; 
  • interpersonal qualities, including leadership potential; 
  • evidence of active involvement in the community; and  
  • any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant’s future success in the engineering profession. 

(3) The selection committee may interview shortlisted applicants.

Terms and conditions

(1) The recipient may hold the Scholarship for one year, subject to the recipient –     -

  • continuing to be enrolled full-time in the Approved Program in a Relevant Field;
  • passing all courses in which they are enrolled; 
  • achieving a GPA of at least 4.5 in the first semester of study; and
  • not holding another scholarship that the Head considers similar.

(2) If a recipient fails to satisfy rule 6(1), the recipient must show cause to the Head why the Scholarship should not be cancelled. 

(3) The Scholarship may not be deferred or interrupted. 

 

The University may terminate a Scholarship - 

  • if the recipient does not show cause to the reasonable satisfaction of the Head as provided in rule 6(2);  
  • if the recipient defers or interrupts their study;
  • once maximum duration of the Scholarship has lapsed; or
  • if student commits serious misconduct.
