The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support first or second year students from a regional area who may have experienced financial disadvantage to pursue studies in ICT at The University of Queensland.

The scholarship is maintained by an annual gift from Agility Applications.


To be eligible, you must: 

  • have completed Year 12 in a regional area or as a boarder whilst having a permanent adress in a regional area
  • be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage
  • be enrolled in an approved program in the first or second year and, where applicable, in the relevant field in the year of award.

Approved Program means the Bachelor of Computer Science or the Bachelor of Information Technology or the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or a dual program that includes the Bachelor of Computer Science or the Bachelor of Information Technology or the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or the integrated Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Master of Engineering.

Relevant Field means software engineering or electrical and computer engineering.

Regional Area means an area deemed regional by the Head outside of Queensland, or all of Queensland except those areas encompassed by the following local government areas-

  • Brisbane City Council
  • Gold Coast City
  • Ipswich City
  • Logan City
  • Moreton Bay Regional
  • Redland City

Additional benefits

Agility may offer the recipient the following opportunities:

  1. an ambassadorial role to attend select networking functions;
  2. work or vacation experience at any Agility site during the period in which the recipient holds the Scholarship, determined by Agility in consultation with the recipient; and
  3. mentoring and networking opportunites with Agility staff members, determined by Agility in consultation with the recipient.

How to apply

Please check your eligibility and prepare your supporting documentation before completing an online application.

You are required to submit the following:

  • a cover letter addressed to Professor Michael Brünig, Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering
  • your resume of no more than 2 double-sided A4 pages, and
  • a copy of your unofficial academic transcript from mySI-net.

Combine all of the above documents to one PDF file. When you save the PDF file, use underscores to separate your student number, surname, first name and transcript (for example: 41234567_Smith_Jane_Agility).

The online application form and documentation must be submitted by 12 midnight on the due date. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

You will also be required to provide evidence of financial need separately, for example, by submitting a Centrelink notice or a 2018/2019 Australian Taxation Office notice.

Selection criteria

The Scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by:

  • an interest in studying ICT, as evidenced by a cover letter, short answer responses within the application, and a resume; and
  • personal qualities, including leadership skills and extra-curricular activities; and
  • any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant’s future success in the ICT profession; and
  • academic achievement in secondary school and/or university studies, appropriate to the applicant’s enrolment status.

Preference shall be given to applicants who completed Year 12 at a high school in a Queensland regional area and in the event that the selection committee ranks multiple applicants equally, preference will be given to applicants who completed Year 12 at a high school in a Queensland regional area and who can demonstrate financial need.

Terms and conditions

A recipient may hold the scholarship for one year, subject to the recipient:

  1. continuing to be enrolled full-time in an Approved Program; and
  2. passing all courses.
