About this scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1977 and is maintained by a bequest from the late Ernest Singer, Doctor of Medicine and of Science.
Eligibility
You are eligible if you are from a non-English speaking background and applying to undertake a Higher Degree by Research in the Graduate School's International Scholarship Round (commencing from RQ4, 2026).
You must:
- meet UQ’s English language proficiency admission requirement; and
- have a native language that is not English, and
- be born in a country where the native language is not English, and
- not have been adopted by or grow up as a member of a family who spoke English as their main language.
How to apply
You will be considered for this scholarship when you apply for a higher degree by research program at UQ in the international scholarship round (for commencement from RQ4 (October), 2026).
Selection criteria
Applicants will be ranked on the basis of:
- academic achievement and potential for scholastic success;
- the quality, significant and strategic fit with the University of the applicant’s research project; and
- any other matters the Dean sees fit.
Rules
This is a philanthropic HDR living stipend scholarship and adheres to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships.
All philanthropic scholarship recipients must follow the conditions of UQ Research Scholarships terms and conditions
Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.
Donors may also invite the recipient to present on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.
