About this scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2011 and is maintained by a bequest from the estate of Dr Alf Howard AM.

Eligibility

You are eligible for this scholarship if you are a HDR candidate from the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences and have passed your confirmation milestone.

How to apply

Free-form applications are invited which describe:

  1. the candidate’s track record of academic excellence;
  2. the program of planned travel; and
  3. how the planned activities will improve the quality of the candidate’s research.

Presenting a paper at a conference may well form part of the planned program, but is not normally expected to be the primary activity undertaken.

The application should include a budget for the trip, and where the budget exceeds $4500, an indication of where the balance will be funded from.

Applications should also be accompanied by a letter of support from the candidate’s principal advisor, and where appropriate, a member of the international host institution. Applications should be sent to hdr.hmns@enquire.uq.edu.au by the end of the closing date.

Selection criteria

Your application will be ranked on the basis of:

  • Your academic achievement and potential for scholastic success; and
  • The significance and relevance of the proposed international travel to the your Higher Degree by Research candidature and the potential for it to enhance the thesis or your professional development; and
  • any other matters the selection committee sees fit.

Selection of a scholar will be made by the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences Head of School and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School.

Rules

This is a Philanthropic HDR travel scholarship and adheres to the terms and conditions outlined in the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships

All philanthropic scholarship recipients must adhere to the conditions of UQ research and travel scholarships, including reporting and progress requirements as well the current travel advice for HDR travel.

Holders of these philanthropic scholarships must acknowledge them in any paper that is published as a result of the research conducted while the recipient held the scholarship.

Donors may also invite the recipient to present or report on the work conducted as part of the scholarship, in which case they must comply or risk losing the scholarship.
